A few days ago, top Super Smash Bros. Melee player Jason “Mew2King” Zimmerman announced his next large project: an autobiography beginning with his earliest memories and running through his career in esports. According to Mew2King, he’s been working on his first draft of the book for over a year, and has a 400-page manuscript ready for editing. While he isn’t yet exactly sure when the book will be published, it seems all-but-guaranteed that the project will come to fruition.
The Echo Fox/Most Valuable Gaming-sponsored Mew2King is perhaps the most interesting top player for this sort of project. While popular Smash personalities such as Chris “Wife” Fabiszak and Masaya “aMSa” Chikamoto have published books about their experiences in esports in the past, Mew2King’s book looks to be considerably longer than either of his fellow-writers’—which makes sense, as the Marth/Sheik main has been in the scene longer than almost any other top player. With this autobiography, we’ll be able to read about iconic moments in Melee history—such as Mew2King’s infamous comeback vs. Bronson “DaShizWiz” Layton at Revival of Melee and his historic supermajor victories over the years—right from the horse’s mouth.
If you’re a fan of competitive Smash, consider purchasing this book. Not only will it be a fascinating read, but its success might encourage the other “gods” of the game to produce valuable and unique content like this book; we’d all benefit from that.
