Gametyrant's Top 5 Indie Games Of 2019

What a year 2019 has been for the indie game development community! So many amazing titles have been launched and the range of styles is wider than ever before. It was difficult to go through all of our options and narrow down the list to only a Top 5, but the Gametyrant team has finally come to a conclusion. However, because of how many games were nominated, we will be including an “honorable mentions” list at the end as well this time.

Some of our choices were mentioned at The Game Awards this year, but we also had a few games in mind that didn’t reach nominations. While this is a shame, we were happy with this years games that were awarded. But without further ado, let’s get into Gametyrant’s Top 5 Indie Games of 2019!

Untitled Goose Game by House House

To start off the list, we are proud to announce that our Indie Game of the Year choice is Untitled Goose Game by House House! With an amazing burst of interest from the entire world, reaching further than just the gaming community, this simplistic-styled puzzle game is worthy of such an award. Countless players have already logged thousands of hours into the entertaining ability to be a goose causing chaos and this is no doubt the beginning of a welcomed series.

A Plague Tale: Innocence by Asobo Studio

The runner up nominee for the Indie Game of the Year title and easy choice to include on the Top 5 list is A Plague Tale: Innocence by Asobo Studio! This game sent players on a unique journey through dark times with a fantasy-style twist. Introducing a usually unseen version of guilt and emotion shown from the main character for the actions they are forced to take mixed with an intriguing story that is enjoyable to play through makes this a must-play title of the year.

Killer Queen Black by BumbleBear Games

Next up we have the competitive, arcade-style title Killer Queen Black by BumbleBear Games. In an incredible return, this game brought back one of the trendiest games from awhile back and pinning players against each other in a 5v5 team game. This title proved that even in today’s gaming age, arcade games have a strong place in our libraries and can still bring us hours of entertainment.

Risk of Rain 2 by Hopoo Games

In one of the biggest turn arounds, the next title is Risk of Rain 2 by Hopoo Games. Completely changing the game style that their first title provided, this team brought a new title to a series that proved just how amazing their game could be. This is a great game to team up with a couple of friends and just journey through an open-world full of enemies and action!

Deliver Us The Moon by KeokeN Interactive

Finally, we end the Top 5 list with the experience game Deliver us the Moon by KeokeN Interactive. Taking away all the usual aspects of gameplay most games provide and throwing you into a story full of detail and exploration, this title offers players the chance to be a hero in a new way. Truly a unique chance to experience an intense situation while enjoying the atmosphere and aesthetic that space provides.

Honorable Mentions

As I mentioned above, there were so many games to list that we had to include an honorable mention section for the games that are deserving of a Top 5 slot, but not as much as our actual Top 5. These titles include Void Bastards by Blue Manchu, Darq by Unfold Games, Superliminal by Pillow Castle Games, Creature in the Well by Flight School Studio, My Friend Pedro by DeadToast Entertainment, and Below by Capybara Games.

That brings us to the end of Gametyrant’s Top Indie Games of 2019. We’re looking forward to what games 2020 will bring us and hope it will be as lucrative as this year was! What do you think about the list we put together? Do you agree with it or is there a game that you feel was over looked? Be sure to let us know in the comments below!
