GDC 2020 Has Set A New Date!

After being postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak, GDC 2020 has finally been rescheduled! The new date for the event is now planned to take place on August 4-6 and it will be different than any GDC that has come before. Even though the GDC event that was supposed to run March 16-20 was delayed, the show still went on virtually with many of the planned talks getting a digital presentation. Because of this, the new event will be primarily focused on making connections within the industry. Now, this isn’t to say there won’t be any talks given, quite the opposite, but for many, these events are a way to get connections to make their projects successful.

GDC Summer will be a unique Game Developers Conference experience but will retain the same high level of expert-led talks as the traditional GDC, along with a freestyle two-day expo show floor August 5th and 6th.

GDC Summer 2020 will roll out a new community partnership program. Organisations will have the opportunity to apply for space onsite to host meetings and gatherings alongside the main event.

The August start date for the event is now less than 4 months away. With coronavirus concerns at their peak, it will be interesting to see if the event can even be done at this new time. Depending on where you look this whole situation could be cleared up in 2 weeks to 6-8 months. I am liking GDC’s optimism that things can get back to normal sooner than later and we can get back to our normal activities.
