ICYMI - BATTLEFIELD 2042 Delayed Until Mid-November

The unfortunate news broke this past Wednesday that EA and Dice’s futuristic FPS, Battlefield 2042 would be pushed back to November 19th, 2021, almost a month from its initial October 22nd date. While this delay may come as a downer, it’s good to see that these two companies would rather push the release date back as to not deliver a game that’s unfinished. We all remember the mess that Battlefield 4’s online multiplayer was at launch.

The above image was the announcement which you can find on the official Battlefield Twitter account. The tweet itself was penned by Dice’s studio GM, Oskar Gabrielson on behalf of himself and the Battlefield 2042 dev team, stating,

Building the next generation of Battlefield during a global pandemic has created unforeseen challenges for our development teams. Given the scale and scope of the game, we had hoped our teams would be back in our studios together as we move towards launch. With the ongoing conditions not allowing that to happen safely, and with all the hard work the teams are doing from home, we feel it is important to take the extra time to deliver on the vision of Battlefield 2042 for our players”.

It’s clear that this pandemic has affected more games than just the BF series and with the rising number of cases, it wouldn’t be far off to assume that we’re going to see more games take this same route. Delaying a game until it’s ready seems like a better idea as opposed to players having another Cyberpunk 2077 scenario, where the game is basically unplayable.

Battlefield 2042 launches this November 19th on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC.
