ICYMI - CALL OF DUTY: VANGUARD'S Campaign Gameplay

During last week’s Opening Night Live event at Gamescom, Call of Duty: Vanguard’s campaign was highlighted in a pretty intense gameplay segment set in Stalingrad. The playthrough features some of the gameplay from one of the campaign’s four playable characters, Polina Petrova. As I said, it’s an extremely intense segment that doesn’t shy away from the realistic horrors of war.

Players will experience the city before it was invaded in the summer of 1942, giving players the chance to see and feel the beautiful city, in the summertime, untouched by war. Players will also experience the city near the end of the 6-month battle, in the winter of 1943. Here, players will be able to fight on the snowy landscape of the Russian winter that was so iconic in WWII.

The video also shows off Call of Duty’s usual cinematic aspects that the series has become synonymous with; huge set-pieces with a Hollywood look to it all. The gameplay itself looks extremely smooth and has some variety in approaches to gunplay and verticality. I like that the series continues to experiment with different mechanics, and it’s evident that Vanguard will be no different.

Call of Duty: Vanguard releases on November 5th for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Battle.net).
