After a long hiatus, the legendary game publisher, Lucasfilm Games is finally back and seemingly stronger than ever. Insert Anakin’s “My powers have doubled since the last time we met” line. With an updated look to their social media pages and whatnot, accompanied by a sizzle reel of the last few years of game releases. It looks to be even brighter days ahead for the Lucasfilm IPs we know and love!
Monday saw the tease of a brand new Indiana Jones game being developed by MachineGames of Bethesda fame which was announced on Twitter. Lucasfilm Games VP Douglas Reilly put out a full statement just this morning and said that “I have wanted to do an Indiana Jones game for a long time, and we’ve never had the right fit of partner and idea to make that happen. We are extraordinarily fortunate to be working with Todd Howard, the executive producer for the upcoming game, which will be developed by MachineGames and the team at Bethesda. He has a unique vision and a unique passion for Indiana Jones and pitched us a story and a concept that is so amazing, I can’t wait to start sharing it with folks. I love Star Wars and we love making Star Wars games, but it’s been a long time since we’ve made Indy. We’re really excited about this one”.
Today marked the announcement that the publisher is looking far and wide for visionary developers to help further the iconic world of Star Wars even further. Another quote from Mr. Reilly reads, “We’ve got a lot of stuff we’re ready to start sharing with fans,” and goes on further by saying, “because we’ve been working quietly behind the scenes for a while now, waiting for this moment”. If that wasn’t enough to be excited about, it was also announced that the company has been working with Ubisoft’s Massive Entertainment to develop an open-world game set in the beloved universe.
Lucasfilm Games has been THE publisher that shaped my childhood, so to see them return to greatness makes me want to weep. It’s such a wonderful feeling to know that even more kids are going to have the chance to grow up with this amazing company putting out more games for them to play. I absolutely cannot wait to see what Lucasfilm Games has up their sleeves. I’m ready for whatever comes next!
