MLB THE SHOW 24 Review: If You Could Get A Slam Dunk In Baseball This Would Be It

Gameplay

MLB The Show 24, the newest installment in the MLB video game series, features Vladmir Guerrero Jr. on the cover and places a significant emphasis on the Negro Leagues. This edition offers a plethora of content to explore, boasting four distinct game modes, each offering seemingly limitless gameplay. Whether you're a casual player or a die-hard fan, this game promises to keep you entertained until the next release in 25 or even longer if desired.

MLB The Show 24 features four distinct game modes: Story Lines, Franchise Mode, Road to the Show, and Diamond Dynasty, catering to various playstyles for different types of players. The Story Lines mode immerses you in the experiences of players from the Negro Leagues who made historical contributions. You'll engage in scenarios that showcase their abilities, all while earning in-game currency and rewards.

In Franchise Mode of MLB The Show 24, players can take on the roles of GM, coach, or even individual players for their selected team, offering a diverse gameplay experience. However, it may not appeal to everyone as it can be quite grindy, especially in the GM simulation mode where you're involved in every pitch or at-bat. Nevertheless, the mode offers excitement in making trades, drafting players, and witnessing your favorite team's progress and growth.

Road to the show (RTTS) is the mode that I see appealing to the more casual MLB fans. It’s essentially a role playing mode where you create a ball player (that can look like you if you want) and you play as them in their career in the big leagues. This years RTTS added one of the biggest changes to the mode allowing players to create a female ball player, which I think is an awesome add to make it more inclusive and potentially broaden the spectrum of people that might be drawn to this game.

My favorite mode is Diamond Dynasty, which combines card collecting, baseball missions, and strategic gameplay into one exciting experience. In this mode, you essentially create your fantasy baseball team, from its name and city to the jersey design. As you progress through programs, you earn in-game currency called stubbs and card packs. Opening these packs can reward you with various items like uniforms, players, stadium sounds, bat skins, or classic stadiums. Utilize these rewards to enhance your team's performance. You can then take your team online or engage in single-player modes to advance through the battle pass, unlocking even more rewards. Diamond Dynasty receives regular updates throughout the baseball season, introducing new cards and challenges for you to conquer.

Graphics and Audio

MLB The Show 24 boasts some of the most satisfying audio I've ever experienced in a sports game. From the resounding baseball bat cracks to the lively announcers, enthusiastic fans, and even the awesome soundtrack, every aspect of the game's audio is so crisp that it genuinely feels like you're watching a real MLB game.

While it's understandable that player faces don't always match their real-life counterparts perfectly, the developers are clearly putting in their best effort. Moreover, the ballparks and in-game visuals in MLB The Show 24 are simply fantastic, adding to the overall immersive experience.

Verdict

MLB The Show 24 stands out as a perfectly crafted sports game, claiming the top spot effortlessly. Its gameplay flows smoothly, ensuring a lasting appeal, and its customization options are both user-friendly and enticing. I wholeheartedly recommend this game to gamers of all kinds and insist that every baseball fan should experience it.
