VR is coming to the masses, and it is coming fast! Today on their official blog Oculus VR announced the pre-order date of the very first consumer edition of the Oculus Rift. It has been possible up to this point to get different versions of the developers kit, but now the product is finally taking its last steps to mass production. If you haven't experienced virtual reality yet, let me be one of many to tell you it is not just a gimmick. Modern VR is convincing to the point that it is disorienting to take the gear off and realize you're still just in your living room.
Along with the consumer version of the hardware, Oculus VR is including Lucky's Tale by Playful, which is a 3D, third person platformer. I'm unsure exactly how one plays a third person game in virtual reality, but I'm interested in finding out. Also, when you pre-order you will receive a copy of EVE Valkarie, which is a first person space shooter, exactly the kind of game I'm looking forward to in VR.
Along with the pre-order opening up Oculus VR founder, Palmer Lucky, will be performing an AMA (Ask Me Anything) over on Reddit at 6:00 PM PST. We'll be back on Wednesday with highlights from that.
