Paradox Interactive, the company behind some of the most-acclaimed 4X grand-strategy games in recent years, has just released their January Monthly Update video for VICTORIA 3. The upcoming nation-building simulator sees the player at the dawn of the industrial revolution, leading a nation in war and peace as they develop their industry and culture.
This monthly update #7 reveals an exciting new feature, as well as digging into the research trees and the peace-treaty systems. As explained in the latter half of the video, the flag of your nation does not need to remain the same. Dynamic flags will enable much more customization to the historically based game, as well as touching on the “changing-history” aspect of Paradox games that people love so much. As your nation develops, and the history of the world changes, flags will change to express that. Colors, shapes, coats of arms, and other styles are all based on a multitude of factors, and it will be interesting to see how it is implemented. Along with that, the prolific Paradox game modding community was given a nod as they explained the ease of inputting your own custom flags and triggering them with in-game events.
The trailer also has developers on the game discussing some more details about how peace is made between warring nations, and how the innovations tab is split and set up. While much of this information has been seen in previous Paradox games, the developers always work to refine these systems across different series’. Keep an eye out for more updates as the year goes on.
