PS5 Hardware Finally Unveiled! With No Price...

At launch, we will offer two options: a PlayStation®5 console with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive and a PlayStation®5 Digital Edition without a disc drive. T...

At the end of today’s PS5 games event Sony finally, finally unveiled the design of the PS5. In a surprising move, they even showed that the system will come with an all-digital version for players that prefer to buy digitally. The design of the machine is very striking and I am loving the two-tone design we all knew it was going to be coming with since the announcement of the Dualsense controller. By the looks of the controller next to the console the PS5 looks to be around the same size as a PS3. From what was shown off today it would also seem like the PS5 can only stand vertically as what would traditionally be the bottom features a curvature with no rubber feet for the system to rest on. Maybe it will come with a horizontal stand? Well, after looking at additional photos it would seem the design is meant to lay flat on the opposite side which gives me a pause considering the way the disk drive sticks out on that side.

I do have to admit that the design of the all-digital edition is vastly superior to me as the version with the 4K Blu Ray Drive looks like the box has a tumor. I am curious as to why they didn’t just make the case wider along the whole side to keep the aesthetic consistent. A wider case could potentially help with improved airflow as well. Speaking of airflow, The PS5 design doesn’t fill me with a sense of confidence that it will be better at dissipating heat compared to the PS4 and as we all know the PS4 sucks at that. I will reserve judgment till I own one myself but if Sony botched the cooling on yet another system I will be severely disappointed.

Along with the PS5 consoles, Sony also took the opportunity to unveil the first set of accessories the system will support including the Dualsense controllers, a new Pulse wireless headset, media remote, and an HD camera, which I assume will be for PSVR compatibility because aren’t we supposed to hate cameras on consoles? Overall I am excited by the PS5 design and think it will look great alongside most setups! I have a few concerns as I outlined above but the hype is certainly real regardless. The PS5 is slated to launch this holiday season for a price of we don’t have a friggin clue!

What do you all think of the PS5’s design?
