Quick Review Roundup: REMNANT 2 - THE AWAKENED KING DLC, BORDERLANDS 3: ULTIMATE EDITION (SWITCH), And EBENEZER AND THE INVISIBLE WORLD

All review keys were provided by the publishers of them

As we enter release season for many games, there’s a lot to sift through. Whether you’re looking for a new indie title, a port, or even some brand-new DLC, we’ve got you covered. So, here are some games we’ve been playing lately, and a review score to go along with our experience with each one of them!

Remnant 2 - The Awakened King DLC

When it comes to content, players excited to check out the brand-new Remnant 2: The Awakened King expansion can expect quite the bang for the buck. This new DLC is exciting and pretty jam-packed with new things to enjoy. The new enemies help to differentiate gameplay a bit further, and it was great to revisit Losomn.

You get some more of that difficult gameplay that we love, whilst offering some new complex things to experiment with thanks to the new Ritualist Architype that you can utilize. Though the DLC doesn’t really have any bearing on the main narrative, it was still an enjoyable adventure nonetheless, and totally worth the money.

Borderlands 3 - Ultimate Edition (Switch)

Borderlands 3: Ultimate Edition is really just a port of the version gamers have been playing for years now. It’s actually great that players finally have all of the current Borderlands titles on the Switch, which hopefully sets Switch owners up for success once the next game is released on every available platform at launch. However, as with most Switch ports, players who choose this version will be taking a downgrade. Though the game performs well, similarly to the other Borderlands ports on the console, the visuals take a downgrade.

While the other games take the road of lowering the graphical polish to make them run well, this title looks like Vaseline is smeared across your screen to lessen the effect of lesser graphical fidelity. It makes the game look ugly and even less polished than the Borderlands 2 port. I just couldn’t imagine spending $59.99 on something that looks like this, even with all the DLC included. I think $39.99 is a more fitting price point.

Ebenezer and the Invisible World

If you’re someone who loves the holidays, then Ebenezer and the Invisible World is definitely for you. This Metroidvania offers a beautiful Christmas setting for players to engage with as it serves as a sequel to the classic Charles Dickens tale, though with more combat than seen in any other adaptation we’ve seen so far. This title has a pretty rich storyline, and gorgeous visuals to boast which shows off just how much everyone working on this title actually loves the source material.

I will say though that the game suffers from some jackiness here and there, and framerates chugged a bit on my Nintendo Switch at times. But I honestly believe that lends itself pretty well to the indie charm that this game exudes. It’s a sweet title that anyone would enjoy at this time of the year and is an easy game to come back to year after year. As a holiday nut, this is one I’ll be happy to boot up again soon.
