RAINBOW SIX SIEGE Ages Well: GameSpot Re-Reviews The Game After More Than Four Years

Rainbow Six Siege is one of my favorite games. It’s a brilliant team-based shooter that has gotten better over the years with continuous support from Ubisoft, a large team of operators to choose between, and a massive arsenal of gadgets and weapons to fight with.

It’s not perfect. Not now and not when it launched over four years ago. But it’s a great example of a game that has improved over time and has grown its player base.

When GameSpot first reviewed Rainbow Six Siege back in 2015, it gave the game an 8/10 rating and praised the depth of strategic gameplay, as well as the variety of tactical options available with all of the operators. At the time, reviewer Scott Butterworth was disappointed with the lack of a single-player campaign and the weaknesses that plagued the early days of online multiplayer in Siege.

Since then, Ubisoft has added a lot more operators—both Defenders and Attackers—maps, gadgets, and weapons. All the while, they’ve modified the game—reworking operators and maps—while adding new features like the Unranked playlist and the esports tournaments that have helped excite the player base.

Years later, reviewer Mat Paget has logged hundreds of hours in the game and re-reviewed the tactical shooter with a 10/10 score.

And I couldn’t agree more with that upgrade. Ubisoft has transformed Siege into one of the best games in the genre. It’s more accessible to new players than ever before, and it’s got so much depth for gamers to explore and to enjoy. With a vibrant esports scene and a competitive ranked system, Rainbow Six Siege is one of the best games I’ve played, and I anticipate many more hours locked in tense firefights.

But what do you think?

Have you played Rainbow Six Siege? What game do you think has gotten better with age?
