SPLATOON 3’s “Charger” Weapons Revealed

As the release date for Splatoon 3 gets closer, the official Splatoon social media accounts are providing fans with all the information they could possibly want about the upcoming shooter. The Splatoon North America Twitter account (@SplatoonNA) is leading the charge with the reveal of three weapons that will be in the game at launch. The focus of the most recent info drop is on “charger” ink guns, which are unique weapons that require players to hold down the fire button before releasing a powerful, long-range attack.

The first of these guns is the Splat Charger, an all-purpose weapon that “has good range and medium charge time.” Players wielding the Splat Charger will find the weapon most useful while maintaining the high ground. The second gun revealed is the Classic Squiffer, a fast-charging gun that sacrifices range for combat versatility. The heavy-duty E-liter 4K rounds out the new slate of weapons. This powerful weapon boasts a powerful, long-range shot that “takes a long time to charge and consumes a tremendous amount of ink.”

This reveal comes shortly after the Splatoon Twitter accounts showed off a handful of “shooter” weapons also coming to the game, including the Splattershot and the .96 Gal. It’s also been confirmed that every basic weapon from both Splatoon and Splatoon 2 will be featured in the upcoming sequel.

Splatoon 3 takes place in a post-apocalyptic world filled with young, stylish, human-squid hybrids who compete in a variety of games revolving around paint gun combat. The main mode, Turf Wars, pits two teams of four against one another in a mad dash to cover as much of the arena in their team’s paint color before time runs out. Players can knock opponents out temporarily by targeting them directly, but paint stores are limited and must be refilled to stay in the game.

Splatoon 3 will release on September 9th, 2022, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. For more on the game, check out our coverage of the launch date reveal trailer featuring gameplay from a full match of Turf Wars.
