Now that we have a new teaser and some details out for the next title from Red Barrels, I have to say that I definitely did not expect a multiplayer game to be announced for the Outlast series. Still, here we are with a brand new upcoming title simply called The Outlast Trials. While the game is set to release sometime in 2021, they didn’t provide a platform list so there’s a chance this will be coming to the new-gen consoles, but let’s hope it also hits the platforms the other Outlast games are on as well. Plus, I can’t help but think that there is a possibility of VR capability just based on the set up alone.
That being said, I do hope that this isn’t going to be one of those multiplayer-only titles. While I love the idea of trying to survive the hell that is the brainwashing, violently insane chaos this series is known for with a friend, I would still like to see some single-player mode; preferably with story elements. As it stands, the story is a simple explanation of Cold War era involuntary human guinea pigs will have their morals challenged, endurance tested, and sanity crushed. All in the name of progress, science, and profit.
No matter what, I can’t wait to see The Outlast Trials in further detail when they release another teaser trailer for it.
