The Designer Behind PIPELINE Board Game Introduces CURIOUS CARGO

What would it be like if there was a science-riddled and mature interpretation of “Jack and the Beanstalk” but with pipes? It might look something like this…

I stumbled upon a midnight market. It wasn't selling flowers or farm goods. It was a more curious sort of cargo: energy capacitors, strange crystalline material, and something green and jiggly. Since then, I’ve been dragged into it, deep into the thick of it.

I paid a stranger more than I should have for manufacturing plans I hardly understood. Worse yet, they sold the same stuff to my best friend. Now, I have to get my supply lines up and running to prepare for shipping my cargo. And, if my friend starts shipping some of this Curious Cargo, I’ll have to intercept their trucks and corner the market that way.

By hook or by crook, I’m going to be the king of Curious Cargo.

Curious Cargo is an upcoming two-player game from Ryan Courtney and Capstone Games. The man behind Pipeline is back, and he’s developed a head-to-head competition where players will build infrastructure, set up transportation, and establish a functional network for the arrival and departure of cargo. The one with the best-laid plans will win.

Pipeline was about constructing a private oil refinement process, and I reviewed it recently. This new game will build on the concepts established in the challenging eurogame. There will be two gameplay variants, Day Mode and Night Mode, which will allow players to play the game at different difficulty levels.

It’s a two-player game that will take gamers between 30 and 60 minutes to finish, so it may very well be a nice introduction to the mechanics of Pipeline while being a very engaging and enjoyable game in its own right.

I’m definitely interested. The game will release in October, but those that pre-order will be able to get their copies delivered in September.

Preorders open on June 30th. Check out the Capstone Games website to place your order. There’s even bonus content for those that get in at this early stage! Preorders close Friday, August 14th.
