The End Is Coming In GOD OF WAR RAGNORAK

During Sony’s PlayStation Showcase 2021 gamers finally got a full look at the upcoming sequel to Sony Santa Monica’s 2018 hit God of War. God of War Ragnorak (now officially its title) closed out the Showcase with a bang with a trailer filled to the brim with gameplay and story galore.

Kratos and Atreus are still reeling from their victory over Baldur, though it does seem like enough time has passed for Atreus’s voice to have dropped. The trailer shows several different areas, new combat mechanics for Kratos and his son to employ, and the motivation for their journey: stopping Ragnorak from destroying the world.

Several returning characters make appearances including the blacksmith brothers Brok and Sindri, Freya, and Mimir who is still a comedic, severed head. The trailer also introduces some new characters, including the Norse god of war himself, Tyr.

Kratos will have new maneuverability options to get around the battlefield and navigate the world, while Atreus appears to sport some new abilities as well that allows him to summon new animal spirits to aid in battle. Both the Leviathan Axe and the Blades of Chaos are returning as part of Kratos’s weapon kit for the sequel.

In a post showcase interview, the game’s director Eric Williams revealed that this game will be the conclusion to the Norse saga for the series. He also added that Thor, Odin, and Angrboda of Norse mythology will all play a role in the game’s story.

While no release date was given we can be sure that both PlayStation and Sony Santa Monica will be showing off more of the game soon as it is projected to release sometime in 2022. And when that news breaks you’ll find it right here on GameTyrant.
