THE WITCHER REMAKE Officially Announced!

from The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director’s Cut

With the 15th anniversary of CD Projekt Red’s (CDPR) first game in The Witcher series, comes the announcement that they are currently working on a remake to bring the aged game into a modern light. Originally referred to by the codename “Canis Majoris” during the company’s strategy update in early October, this remake is being built from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5 and utilizing the toolset CDPR is creating for their new Witcher saga.

While the project is still in early development, CDPR has revealed that they are collaborating with Fool’s Theory, a game development collective that has so far specialized in the role-playing game genre. The team has many veteran developers who have previously worked on The Witcher 2 and 3.

“The Witcher is where it all started for us, for CD PROJEKT RED. It was the first game we made, ever, and it was a big moment for us then. Going back to this place and updating the game for the next generation of gamers to experience it is just as big, if not bigger,” said Adam Badowski, Head of Studio, CD PROJEKT RED. “Collaborating with Fool’s Theory on the project is just as exciting, as some of the people there have been previously involved in The Witcher games. They know the source material well, they know how much gamers have been looking forward to seeing the remake happen, and they know how to make incredible and ambitious games. And although it will take some time before we’re ready to share more about and from the game, I know it’ll be worth the wait.”

While the game is still in early development and we have no news of a release date, fans of the series are excited for the first game in such a great series to receive a much-needed rework and are hopeful regarding promises of better combat and in-game systems.
