In an unexpected announcement Disney’s The Lion King and Aladdin from the 16-bit era are getting physical and digital re-releases! dubbed Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King this compilation will bring these 16-bit classics into the modern era. Being developed by retro porting masters Digital Eclipse, who have brought many classic titles forward to new systems throughout the years, the collection is sure to run well.

Multiple versions of each title will also be available with the Genesis and Game Boy versions of each title being available. The SNES version of Lion King is also going to be included but for some reason not the SNES version of Aladdin. Unlike the SNES and Genesis version of Lion King, Aladdin on SNES and Genesis were very different games. There is however going to be a couple added versions of Aladdin that include a new “final-cut” version of the game and an old 1993 trade show edition.

Features of the collection include the following.

●        Authentic Game Content with Modern Improvements – Fans old and new can enjoy the original game builds, upscaled graphics, customizable controls, special filters for visual enhancement and more.

●        Variety of Game Versions – The collection includes multiple playable platform versions of the games including their Sega Genesis, Game Boy and Super Game Boy releasesas well as The Lion King Super Nintendo Entertainment System version.

●        A Helping Hand – Players who want to experience the Disney magic in true “Hakuna Matata” fashion can use the Interactive Game Viewer, Rewind feature and cheat codes to aid gameplay progression.

●        Curated, Explorable Museum – A treasure trove of behind-the-scenes development assets including interviews, an art gallery and a music player shares the rich history behind the Aladdin and The Lion King 16-bit games.

In an ironic moment I just replayed the entirety of Lion King just 2 weeks ago to see if I could still beat it like I could as a kid. After 20 years I actually found the game to be far easier than I remembered. For anyone who finds these games difficult the inclusion of rewind functions and game viewer are sure to be huge helps! The Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King will be released on Oct. 29th for PC, PS4, Switch and Xbox One at a price of $29.99.
