DISHONORED THE ROLEPLAYING GAME First Impression: A Great Tabletop Adaptation Of The Critically Acclaimed Series

I am a huge fan of the Dishonored franchise as a whole. I absolutely adore the art style, the games offer a ton of player choice when it comes to gameplay, and the story/lore is intriguing. When I heard that the Dishonored universe was coming to the tabletop, I knew that I had to give it a try.

Because of the current world situation, I actually haven’t been able to get a campaign set up and experience the game for myself, so I thought I would give my initial thoughts on the game based on reading through the core rulebook. You can definitely expect to see a full-blown review based on an actual gameplay experience once this whole pandemic blows over.

Gameplay

Dishonored: The Roleplaying Game features a simplified version of the 2d20 System which puts a strong focus on narrative play, and really highlights the core themes from the video game counterpart. The streamlined 2d20 System also provides a very welcoming learning environment for those that might be new to tabletop RPGs, such as myself.

From an outside perspective, most tabletop RPGs seem to be very complicated and intimidating. The core rulebook provides clear explanations of the mechanics and themes that the game contains, putting those thoughts of hesitation to bed.

Expectations

As the core rulebook is only available in PDF format at the moment, Modiphius Entertainment has been actively collecting feedback from those that have purchased the product and making minor adjustments to the book. Whether these are minor spelling errors or just general balance adjustments to the core gameplay experience, it is very heartwarming to see them making this much effort to ensure that they ship a top-notch physical rulebook later this year.

I would love to see other physical items alongside the release of the physical core rulebook, like Dishonored themed dice, chaos tokens, etc. I also hope we get more pre-built scenarios/expansions as time goes on.

Conclusion

I think Modiphius Entertainment has done a great job bringing the Dishonored universe to the tabletop, and I’m very pleased with what they have done so far. I can’t wait to actually dive into the game and get hands-on with it, so I can bring you guys a full-blown review.

Dishonored: The Tabletop RPG core rulebook is available to purchase right now in either a PDF or physical format. Those that purchase the physical product will receive the PDF upon purchase, so they can play right away instead of having to wait until the release in June. Others that choose to buy just the PDF will receive a discount code in their purchase confirmation email that will off-set the price of the physical copy of the core rulebook.
