As part of yesterday’s Nintendo direct, we were treated to a surprise launch of the previously announced Final Fantasy IX! Final Fantasy IX originally released on the Sony PlayStation back in the year 2000 to a positive reception. This was also the first PS1 game in the series that didn’t see a native PC port until a 2016 steam re-release. The version of the game now available on Xbox One and Switch is this same re-release that features some graphic touch ups and the bonus of no longer being on 4 disks! Final Fantasy IX is also part of the Xbox Play Anywhere program giving all Xbox buyers the option to play the game on Windows 10 PC’s. It has also been reported that the Xbox One and Switch version of the seminal Final Fantasy VII should be launching next month followed by Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD and Final Fantasy XII in April. Now if only we could get a release of Final Fantasy VIII I’d be a very happy person!
