Get To Know More About The DOCTOR WHO VR Game In These New Developer Videos

If you are not yet aware of it yet, developers Maze Theory announced that they are working on a Doctor Who VR game titled The Edge of Time. In it players will embark on a brand-new and fully-interactive adventure, inspired by the show’s 55-year history and starring the Doctor’s current incarnation, played by Jodie Whittaker. It is planned to release for PSVR, HTC Vive, Vive Cosmos, and Oculus Rift in September 2019.

In excitement to build off of and add to the canon within the Doctor Who series, the developers have released a developer diary. In it you can learn how the game aims to create an authentic experience true to the globally beloved show.

Aside from the developer diary above, they have released a few other videos on the games development. Each one features a different creature that will be found in the game including both of the well known antagonists Weeping Angels and Daleks. The other creature video covers a brand new enemy to join the Doctor Who universe through this VR title: Hydrorks - vicious amphibians, sometimes used as guards by races like the Stenza and Zygons.

With all these aspects revealed, it is worth adding that they have a few fun facts to add to all these trailers.

  1. The weeping angels utilise a classic horror game mechanic, so the team have been excited to work with them.

  2. Daleks in VR are incredibly imposing. Getting up close to them, seeing the textures of the metal and reflectivity are awe-inspiring (in a terrifying kind of way!).

  3. Jump scares work really well in VR! They are a brilliant technique. Be warned.

  4. Being able to create new monsters for the show and add to the canon is hugely exciting. We’re making Doctor Who history!

  5. When working in VR, because people can move around, get up close and experience the monsters from any angle, it’s really important to get the quality and accuracy just right. It feels very real!

With all this news dropped on Doctor Who: The Edge of Time, how can any fan of this classic sci-fi series not get excited for this upcoming VR title? Which part of these announcements are you most excited for?
