Halo’s greatest players in the world will be battling it out for a lot more than just bragging rights. Microsoft has announced that 16 teams across the world will be fighting each other for a shot to win $2.5 million dollars!
According to Esports Earnings tracking site, this is the seventh largest prize pool in eSports history and the highest ever for a first-person shooter. Most of the popular eSports games are played on PC, but Halo is a great example of a console hit finding major success in the eSports world.
Microsoft initially set the prize pool at $1 million, but it that pool was raised via crowdfunding by fans through Halo 5: Guardians’ REQ system of in-game micro-transactions.
The competition features players competing in Halo 5: Guardians and the tournament will take place from March 18th to March 20th in Hollywood CA, but Microsoft has yet to announce an exact venue.
