IDW Games is Making a BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES Board Game

I love Batman: The Animated Series and I love tabletop games, so you can imagine my excitement when I saw the announcement of IDW Games’ Batman: The Animated Series – Gotham Under Siege. Not much info has been given about the game itself, but it is being designed by Richard Launius and Michael Guigliano. Launius has previously designed Elder Sign  -a fantastic game- and gives me great hope for Gotham Under Siege. Reportedly, the game will suit 1-5 players who will take on the role of the caped crusader and his allies in order to capture the iconic Rogues Gallery from Batman: The Animated Series. The announcement talked about dice allocation -not surprising as Elder Sign is a dice allocation game- and “threat management.” I’m not sure what threat management would be, but I could see it being similar to the outbreak counter in Pandemic. I think the following is the most exciting part of the announcement:

This game features all new artwork, character miniatures, 3D city buildings, and other board game elements, Batman: The Animated Series – Gotham Under Siege captures the action and adventures of the animated series right on the tabletop.

The only thing that could be better in my opinion would be if there was a soundtrack and narration provided by the original voices. One more important note is that IDW appears to already be planning expansion sets.

Subsequent releases in the series will capture and celebrate the Batman Animated universe, packed with heroes and villains, featuring them in settings new and still familiar to fans and gamers.

I am crazy excited for this game to come out and you can be sure that I’m adding it to my Christmas list. If you’re going to Origins Game Fair this year, you will have a chance to catch a preview of it before it is released in August. You can check out some of the artwork and the figures in the gallery below.
