Up until Gamescom 2021, the next chapter in Bandai Namco and Supermassive Games’ narrative-based series, The Dark Pictures Anthology, had a clear case of what the danger is that threatens the lives of our characters. Now, we are given a new trailer for House of Ashes that asks us, “who is the real enemy?” Just to emphasize the question, they included some clashing scenes that will tighten the tension that already surrounds this dark story.

The whole story takes place in the Zagros mountains after a US military unit comes under fire from Iraqi forces. The resulting firefight causes an earth tremor where both sides fall into the ruins of a buried Sumerian temple. With all communication severed, our protagonists are trapped and must navigate a way to escape - unaware that something ancient and evil has awakened in the shadows and is hungry for blood.

In this terrifying underworld, ask yourself who your real enemy is. The monsters hiding in the shadows or the other people trapped with you? Will you set aside your rivalries to face a common enemy? Tough decisions will have to be made and, as usual, the consequences could be deadly.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes is set to release on October 22nd for PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. You can pre-order today and even go for the collector’s edition which includes a cool statue of the underworld creature called Pazuzu.
