METROID PRIME 4 Is Still In Development According To Reggie Fils-Aimé

During E3 last month, a particular Nintendo game was missing in the roster of announcements from the Japanese developer. However, good ol’ Reggie Fils-Aimé provided a short update on the development of Metroid Prime 4 in an interview with Game Informer.

In the interview, the president of Nintendo of America revealed that their goal last year was to make sure that Metroid fans know that a Metroid Prime title is in development. However, given the long list of games launching this year, Nintendo had to focus on those first, but Fils-Aimé said that fans should not worry as the game is still in development.

“Last year was important to us to message to the Metroid fan that there was a Metroid Prime experience in development, as we showed Metroid: Samus Returns for the 3DS,” Fils-Aimé told Game Informer. “We didn’t want that fan to say ‘You just launched a new system, when are you going to bring me a Metroid on that platform?’ We said it was coming. This year, with so many games launching effectively between [now] and the first half of next year, we wanted to focus on those games. Rest assured, Metroid Prime 4 is still in development and proceeding well.”

Fils-Aimé also talked about the possibility of launching a mini version of the N64, similar to the NES and SNES Classics and said that right now, the company is more focused on pushing out the NES Classic and having a “strong holiday with SNES Classic.” Of course, Nintendo is always open on the possibility of an N64 mini as Fils-Aimé said that Nintendo is aware of the demand for their legacy content but suggests in the interview that the company will focus on selling what they have now before jumping on the next “mini” console.
