Monoprice Harmony Capsule 200 Portable Bluetooth Speaker Review: A Small Symphony Of Sound
Those looking for a pretty solid speaker to take on the go should be happy to find out that Monoprice has crafted their very own epic and affordable portable speaker in their Harmony 200 Portable Bluetooth Speaker. Offering a beautiful soundscape and all the features you’d hope to find in this type of tech these days, this is definitely the one to buy if you’re in the market for superior sound on the go.
What’s In The Box
While Monoprice was gracious enough to send us two samples of the Harmony 200s, both unboxings are as follows: you get the Harmony 200 Bluetooth Speaker, a short USB Type-C charging cable, and its user manual. It’s a pretty straightforward experience and you get everything you’d need to get the party started.
Aesthetics and Build Quality
At first, I wasn’t really sure how I felt about the look of these speakers. They’re a full blackout from top to bottom aside from the silver Monoprice logo. But things changed and I quickly fell in love with their simple and timeless design. I guess I’d been accustomed to their competitors’ crazy color pallets and whatnot but this design really looks clean. They also blend in perfectly whether sitting on a desk, bedside tables, or just out around the house.
Moving over to the build quality; these things are sturdy as heck. They definitely have a nice bit of weight to them that makes them feel beefy. There’s also the fact that they all around feel like absolute tanks. Because of the aesthetics and build, they actually remind me of Batman for some reason. They’re just really reliable. Not to mention the fact that they are IPx7 all-weather certified too which lends themselves to that reliability.
Specs and Audio Quality
Large dual 52mm and single 66mm speaker drivers
EQ tuned for high quality, high volume playback
Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity with Qualcomm TrueWireless Stereo
IPx7 all-weather certified
Large Lithium‑ion rechargeable battery for all-day playback
Microphone for voice assistant phone control (Siri/Celia)
Auxiliary and microSD card inputs for additional audio sources
USB‑C charging input
Usage with just one of these things on its own is far forth the price. The bass is heavy, treble is just right, and the overall tone is bright when it all comes together. I really enjoyed testing these out in different scenarios as these aren’t just portable speakers.
Pairing two together creates a concert anywhere you go. I placed one on one side of my room and one on the other side and pumped them up to the full blast. The end result was the most insane way to hear “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” that I’ve ever experienced. Hearing the singers belt it out over each other from both sides of the room was incredible and it even was able to shine through some aspects of other songs that I normally wouldn’t have heard in a different case.
Connecting them together is a pretty easy process too which was something I was hesitant about at first. Luckily, once you get the hang of it, doing it time after time is a breeze. And you can also set them up to either stand straight up or lay down on their side as they each have a built-in set of feet.
Besides music, I also used them on my PC to watch Youtube videos and hooked them up to my projector for some extra oomph. Both cases worked extremely well and I personally didn’t realize any latency or lag between what I was seeing and hearing.
What It Could Have Done Better
My single complaint about these speakers is that when adjusting the volume it takes an extra second or two to get it right. I noticed that if I pressed up or down for volume on my phone that I’d have to do it again just for the speakers to respond and adjust accordingly. Not really sure why that was the case but it honestly wasn’t too big of a deal in the grand scheme of things.
Verdict
Coming out of my testing with the two Harmony 200 Portable Bluetooth Speakers I was sent, I really enjoyed myself and honestly couldn’t recommend these enough. For their insanely low price and just how great they are overall, these things are literally a steal. Monoprice constantly goes above and beyond my expectations with their audio equipment and I cannot wait to see what they do next.
