RAINBOW SIX SIEGE Targets DDoS Attacks

Rainbow Six Siege has recently released its Ember Rise update, which brings two new operators, a reworked map, and significant changes to its ranked system. Ubisoft has demonstrated a strong commitment to the game and to its continued development over the years. The number of operators that you can play when attacking or defending has risen to 50 since launch, and quality of life updates have consistently improved elements of the game.

However, that has not stopped hackers and cheaters from damaging the spirit of the game in online competitive play. During this last year, with an increased presence following the new update, DDoS attacks have become a frustrating feature in some games. The denial-of-service attacks either make a match unplayable or they disconnect the players entirely. With a ranked system that penalizes leaving matches and stringently records your rank, this can have a disheartening and irritating effect on the gaming community.

Thankfully, Ubisoft recognizes the problem and has dedicated an entire next-step news release to inform players as to how the studio intends to combat this issue.

These steps include ban waves, which will focus on players that have been identified and will continue as needed when perpetrators are discovered. The amount of matches in Rainbow Six Siege that are hosted on a server will also be reduced to one, down from three. That means that any DDoS attacks will only affect one match rather than two additional ones. Players knocked out of matches because of the cheater and hackers will no longer be penalized either. Finally, Ubisoft plans to pursue legal action against the websites that host these services.

All of this is good news, and it will be nice to see the reduction in cheating and hacking on the game.
