VOICE OF CARDS: THE BEAST OF BURDEN Launches On This Month!

Some awesome news for fans of the Voice of Cards series created by Square Enix was recently announced. The newest iteration of the series, Voice of Cards: The Beast of Burden, launches in September!

Voice of Cards: The Beast of Burden, like its predecessors, is a narrative RPG told entirely through the medium of playing cards. Luckily for newcomers, Voice of Cards: The Beast of Burden is a standalone experience that doesn’t require previous experience with the series to understand the story or narrative.

The main gist of the story occurs in a classical fantasy world ravaged by war between humans and monsters. You follow a girl who has lost her home and family to these monsters, traveling on her quest for revenge as she meets new and mysterious people to journey with.

For dedicated fans of the NeiR and Drakengaurd series, Voice of Cards: The Beast of Burden also brings with it the famous skills of Creative Director Yoko Taro, Music Director Keiichi Okabe, and Character Designer Kimihiko Fujisaka. With names that big behind the creation of the game, you can just anticipate the quality level of the story and art is going to be incredible!

Lastly, for the uber fans who have been with the series from the beginning, or just those looking to splurge, there is the Digital Deluxe Edition set, which includes the Voice of Cards: The Beasts of Burden game and several DLC items styled after the award-winning mobile RPG, NieR Re[in]carnation, which includes the following:

  • Decoration of Those in the Cage – New costumes for the game’s heroine and her companions

  • Handbook Pattern – Card reverse patterned after an expert handbook

  • Mama Avatar – Avatar designed patterned after Mama

  • Story Collectors’ Dice – Dice patterned after Mother and Carrier

  • The Cage Board – Board and accessories patterned after the Cage

  • Aid Table – Table patterned after the random draw screen

  • Melody of reincarnation – A soundtrack that brings to mind a certain tale of the girl and the monster

  • Pixel Art Set – Replaces all character and enemy illustrations with pixel art

In addition, players who purchase the game now through October 3, 2022, will receive the “Iron Avatar” DLC which unlocks an avatar design with a lustrous iron color, and the “Somber Girl’s Abstract Pattern” DLC which unlocks a card with the reverse patterned after the back view of the game’s heroine as early purchase rewards.

Voice of Cards: The Beasts of Burden will be available digitally for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam on September 13, 2022. Pre-orders are now available for Nintendo Switch and Steam.
