Ubisoft announced this week that they are embarking on a new initiative for the Assassin’s Creed franchise. In a post on their website, Ubisoft revealed that Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft Quebec are being restructured into a “collaborative, cross-studio structure” that will helm all-new Assassin’s Creed projects.
One of those projects is “an important upcoming, early-in-development project codenamed Assassin’s Creed Infinity.” While few details were given on the nature of Infinity the wording in the post suggests that it will be an evolving platform for the franchise rather than isolated releases from disparate teams. Development on Infinity is clearly stated as being a “cross-studio collaboration” in an effort to leverage the best talent “no matter where they are within Ubisoft.”
The announcement goes on to detail the leadership structure of this new cross-studio, including naming Mark-Alexis Côté from Ubisoft Quebec as the head of the studio and executive producer of the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Étienne Allonier from Ubisoft Montreal will also stay on alongside Côté in bringing “a more cohesive approach” to the development of the series.
The post reiterates that this change is being conducted to provide a more consistent approach to the development of Assassin’s Creed games. It closes with a promise that they will reveal more details about Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla content and Infinity at a later date.
