BATTLEFIELD 2042’s Portal Mode Is The Sole Reason To Come Back

Hello, fellow Battlefield fans! Did you also feel betrayed by the horrors that they refer to as Battlefield 2042? Well, I truly feel your longing pain. If you didn’t catch our rant on how EA can fix the franchise, then be sure to give that a read. Thankfully, EA and DICE have released a recent patch for BF 2042 that has corrected a lot of quality of life issues that have plagued the game since its launch. Although the game is far from perfect and still has a long road ahead of it, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Portal Mode is absolutely rocking it on BF 2042 servers right now. With the recent limited-time playlist of FlashBack Conquest, players can play 1942, Bad Company 2, and Battlefield 3 in the BF 2042 engine. These maps are fully realized and completely redone to bring them to modern standards. It was a blast playing through BC2’s maps in 60 FPS. Graphics, performance, and destruction are all heightened and improved.

Now I know the PC players out there can log on to BC2 and BF3 today and play these games in 60 FPS and get stunning visuals, with and without mods. However, the Portal Mode not only improves the performance of these classic maps and modes but also allows full customization. Do you want 128 player matches on BF3’s Caspian Border? Would you rather play Rush 32v32 maps on BC2’s Valparaiso? Or maybe snipers only on BF 1942’s Battle Of The Buldge, which is completely reimagined for this game. There are near endless options here.

Along with this, the gunplay feels much better, and hitboxes seem to be fixed. Although there is not a fix for the dreaded specialist situation for the base game, Portal Mode completely offsets that. That’s right, classes are available in Portal Mode, bringing back that classic squad-based Battlefield gameplay that we all know and love. 1942, BC2, and BF3 all play better than you remember in this fantastic mode.

Of course, nothing is ever perfect, so there are some downsides. Portal Mode currently only has two maps from each classic BF title, with the hope of more to come in the future. Classes are available in these modes with set gadgets and items but there isn’t as much flexibility when it comes to modifications at the moment. Gun attachments are readily available but the sheer amount of weapons available does seem a bit lackluster compared to previous entries.

The biggest problem Portal Mode has right now is the lack of players! Even with cross-play on, there are only a handful of populated servers right now. BF 2042 had an unbelievably messy launch and there clearly still needs to be some major improvements done on the base game.

But for all those players that have given up on it, please reinstall the game and give Portal Mode one last try. These Flashback playlists are the closest you will get to a remaster of the original games. It not only looks good but it plays well too!

What do you think? Has Battlefield 2042 completely lost you as a fan? Are you willing to give it another go for Portal Mode? Let us know in the comments!
