Zombicide is a massive hit in the board game community. Each sequel, standalone, and new edition racks up millions of dollars on Kickstarter during the campaigns, with thousands of fans flocking to get the latest zombie incursion onto the table.

Now, though, horror fans can enjoy a themed Zombicide game that draws on a genre classic for inspiration. Night of the Living Dead: A Zombicide Game brings the dead back to life from the George A. Romero movie. Horror cinephiles meet undead tabletop gamers in this ghoulish affair.

This is a stand-alone expansion to the board game franchise, and it’s available now. Halloween might be over, but the terror of the presidential election is upon us, and the pandemic assures that life isn’t reverting back to normal. So maybe we need a few planned scares in our lives. Like with this board game.

Night of the Living Dead is not a quickly reskinned cash grab, though. There are new mechanics for players to explore, including the dual nature of the Survivors. Switch between the Romero Mode and Zombicide Mode of the player characters, which represent the conflicting sides of individuals in a crisis. Fear and isolation clash against response and survival. Encounters during the game will switch Survivors between these two states and players will be terrified when their Zombicide slasher is replaced with a trembling shell of their former self. It’s a cool narrative reversal that will have characters flipping back and forth through the game.

Fans of the film will also enjoy how the scenarios recreate iconic scenes from the movie. A lot of love went into making the details match as closely as possible with the horror classic.

If you haven’t pre-ordered Night of the Living Dead, you can check it out on the CMON website or visit your local friendly game store.
