Factor 5 President, Julian Eggebrecht, would like to get the unreleased Star Wars Rogue Leaders: Rogue Squadron out on the Nintendo Switch! Star Wars Rogue Leaders: Rogue Squadron was an updated compilation of the three Star Wars Rogue Squadron games that appeared on the Nintendo 64 and GameCube. The compilation was to have remastered versions of each game as well as include bonus lightsaber fights and a racing mode. Appearing in the latest episode of IGN’s Nintendo Voice Chat podcast, Eggebrecht said,
“It’s something in some way, shape, or form, should definitely come out of the archives. I think it’s just about the willingness of probably us spending some time on it, Disney/Lucasfilm playing along with it, and probably EA must be a little in the mix.”
Star Wars Rogue Leaders: Rogue Squadron was cancelled sometime back in 2009 and was only revealed as a cancelled project back in 2014. The reasons for the cancellation have never been made public, but Eggebrecht believes they "should be out of the way nowadays." When asked about porting the game to the Switch Eggebrecht said,
"My immediate dream would be to first port basically what we had on Rogue Squadron Wii to the Switch, Rogue Squadron Wii pretty much supported every single input device. So, in spirit it's very comparable to what Nintendo did with Mario Odyssey, or even more so Mario Kart."
"then get gang together, They're all around. Our lead artist, who did the look so unbelievably right, basically spent half his time at Skywalker ranch designing for George on the movies and the other half of his time drawing the textures for us. That artist now works at Pixar, which is only a stone's-throw away. I’m sure we could get all these guys together and really do a nice upresed version. The models still hold up."
I think if Star Wars Rogue Leaders: Rogue Squadron were to be released that my head might explode! My jump into the streaming and content creation world was brought about because of Rogue Squadron 2. To this day I still make videos of artist General_Han_Solo’s HD texture packs for Rogue Squadron 2/3 and yes, the models do hold up! The way that Factor 5 was able to manipulate the N64 and GameCube hardware was nothing short of incredible. I would love to see that coding wizardry aimed at the Nintendo Switch.
