HUMANKIND Receiving First DLC Culture Pack; Cultures Of Africa

Amplitude Studios have officially announced their first DLC for HUMANKIND, its 4x/turn-based strategy game that arrived last year. Published by SEGA, HUMANKIND is a game about culture. Well, to be more precise, it’s about evolving your nation through different cultures as the years and technology continue to move forward.

The game starts with players in the Neolithic Era as a nomadic group with no cities and sees you grow them all the way to the Contemporary Era with planes and megacities. You are able to pick 6 different cultures to base your society around throughout time, with the options changing for every new era. Each culture has its buffs, a unique building and unit, and an art style that differentiates between them and makes the decision at the start of each new era exciting.

New eras give you the option between almost 10 cultures, and with the announcement of Cultures of Africa, this number is sure to start ballooning. This new DLC will expand the culture roster with 6 new cultures; one for each era. These new cultures also bring with them 5 new monuments, all based on the cultures being added.

Early game with the Bantu is all about expansion

From the DLC’s Steam page comes this list of cultures and monuments;

Era 1 – Bantu (Expansionist) The Bantu expansion is a postulated series of major migrations of an original Ntu-speaking group from Central- West-Africa across much of sub-Saharan Africa. Pick this culture if you want to grab a lot of land fast and early!

Era 2 – Garamantes (Agrarian) Their growth and expansion rested on a complex and extensive qanat irrigation system, which supported a strong agricultural economy and large population. Pick this culture if you want to get food from arid Territories!

Era 3 – Swahili (Merchant) The rise of the Swahili coast city-states can be largely attributed to the region's extensive participation in a trade network that spanned the Indian Ocean. Pick this culture if you want to take advantage of your coasts!

Era 4 – Maasai (Agrarian) A fierce pastoralist people with a Nilotic language. Achieving warrior status meant single-handedly killing a lion with a spear. Pick this culture if you want to optimize your growth rate!

Era 5 – Ethiopians (Militarist) One of only two nations that preserved their sovereignty from long-term colonization. By weaving the natural cliffs and ledges into the creation of their fortresses, Ethiopia was able to fend off most colonial forces. Pick this culture if you’d like to quickly catch up on military and science!

Era 6 – Nigerians (Agrarian) The variety of its terrain and the abundance of its hydraulic resources offer it significant agricultural possibilities and make it one of West Africa’s foremost producers. Pick this culture to increase your oil deposits!

Monuments: The 5 New Wonders
