Humor Lifts Immortals Fenyx Rising to Soaring Heights

Ancient Greek Comedy

Arriving quite quietly across consoles, PC, Stadia, and Nintendo Switch, Immortals Fenyx Rising is a familiar yet completely unique adventure that has been compared to Breath of the Wild among other titles. Even though it’s tempting, Instead of comparing and contrasting Fenyx to existing titles, it’s better to just take it for what it is: A light, airy open world action game with light RPG, platforming, and puzzle elements through ancient Greek and Roman mythology. Most importantly though, it’s the humor and narrative that makes Fenyx it’s own unique experience.

The color of Poseidon’s vomit.

From the grand, sweeping moments of the story that include all your favorite mythology players including Hermes, Zeus, etc, it’s really the banter between Zeus and Prometheus narrating the story that steal the show even down to the LOL moments of the character creator at the beginning of the game, as shown in the above screenshot. Even though pop culture references are plenty throughout the dialogue, most of it works and to be honest, I haven't laughed or chuckled this much in a game in a VERY long time. The writing is overall fantastic, especially for an Ubisoft game.

Yes, there is a solid game behind the humor and while not revolutionary by any means, if you like mythology, enjoyed Breath of the Wild or just want a distraction during the Holidays, Fenyx is a great little game. Personally, I love the option of Ubisoft+ on PC because for $15 for 30 days, you can enjoy Fenyx, AC: Valhalla, Watchdogs: Legion or any other Ubisoft game basically risk free.
