KNOXLABS SNOWFOX V2 Review: Fun Concept, But Unnecessary

What’s In the Box

The SnowFox V2 is a handheld gunstock built for VR to make gunplay more immersive. All that came in the package was the handle, the barrel, and two interchangeable triggers. It’s as simple as that. It also came with some safety instructions that I actually found pretty funny because of the images they picked.

Aesthetics and Build Quality

The pistol gunstock looks fine, it’s not the most realistic thing in the world but when you’re in VR it doesn’t matter does it? The problem is in the way it feels in the hand, it really feels like a piece of plastic. It’s not as comfortable as the Quest controller, so in a way you’re losing out on comfortability.

On top of that, the controller feels 3D printed, which isn’t always a bad thing, 3D printing has come a long way. The problem with the way this feels 3D printed is that there were still pieces of filament that were hanging off and it just gave it a grainy and rough feeling in my hand.

Feedback

I don’t think that these should be sold individually, it felt pretty funny having one pistol stock and then a Quest controller in the other hand. Even with two though I don’t know how much it would’ve improved my gaming experience. The most important part of accessories for VR is if it’s comfortable, and the SnowFox V2 isn’t very comfortable in the hand. It needs to be a bit of a smoother plastic to match the quest controller more or add some rubber grips.

I’m not sure if it’s a one size fits all kind of accessory, but using it with the Quest 2, the controller barely fit inside. It actually made me nervous putting the controller into the handle.

Verdict

The SnowFox V2 upon opening the box is an exciting accessory for VR. But that’s kind of where the excitement stops. After having trouble putting the controller into the stock I was already iffy about it but then I realized comparing it to the Quest controller, the SnowFox was missing something. If the SnowFox adds a rubber grip and/or smooths out the plastic this would be a much different story since it is a fun accessory that doesn’t break the bank.

You can purchase the SnowFox V2 on the Knoxlabs website for $39.99 USD.
