Let's Talk About It - BATTLEFIELD 2042 Reveal

Yesterday was a big day for Battlefield fans as EA revealed the latest entry into the series, Battlefield 2042. Most players were expecting the next game to be Battlefield 6 and while it may not be that, it is a great direction that DICE is taking the franchise in. While I’ve liked the ideas in Battlefield 1 and Battlefield 5, I’ve missed the modern combat aspects of Battlefield 4. Having watched the reveal myself, I’m extremely pleased by what’s been displayed so far. That doesn’t go to say that there wasn’t a thing or two that had me rolling my eyes.

My absolute favorite piece of what the reveal showcases are the return of dynamic maps. We see huge fires sweeping areas and even a tornado rushing through a city street. Aspects like these were always some of my favorite parts of the BF4 maps. I’m really hoping that there are even more than what’s been shown so far.

As far as aesthetics go, I’m really glad that while this title takes place in the future, it isn’t looking like a sci-fi shooter or anything too far off from what we’re on track to see tech-wise within the next 25 years. My one complaint though is the robot dog thing. I hate seeing things like this as it reminds me of the rougher years that COD just got out of. It was a trend that went for far too long in my opinion.

Besides that one little nitpick, the way the game looks reminds me of a more realistic G.I. Joe. type of thing. I really got those vibes when the snowy map is shown. The vehicles gliding over the ice for instance and there are even some vehicles that look slightly like H.I.S.S. tanks.

The main takeaway that I have from this reveal is that DICE looks to have an emphasis on fun this time around over realism. All of what these characters are doing look like something I wanna play. Gliding through the air in a wingsuit, driving ATVs into helicopters, jumping out of a jet while performing an RPG takedown on another jet to then jump back into my own jet, and of course, running from a tornado. The game will also feature 128 player matches which is absolutely bonkers!

Battlefield has and always will be the pinnacle of what shooters can be and as a self-acclaimed fanboy, I’m dying to see what else we’re going to be shown. I know that’s it’s been confirmed that this title will not have a campaign or BR mode but I’m whole-heartedly certain that DICE is going to give us a game worth playing.

Is $60 too much to ask for a Battlefield title with no campaign? Do you like the direction that the devs took this time around? Do you agree or disagree with my stance?

Battlefield 2042 is set to release on October 22nd for PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5

Sound off in the comments to let us know what you think about the reveal.

I’m also hoping to get this new “Let’s Talk About It” segment going so that I could dissect topics that make me feel a certain way and talk about them critically. So let me know what you think about that as well.
