Limited Edition KING OF TOKYO: DARK EDITION Coming In 2020

IELLO announced a singular print run for King of Tokyo: Dark Edition, which will be coming in the first quarter of 2020. The classic tabletop brawl will get an all-new look, upgraded components, and a new gameplay mechanic. It’s the kind of collector’s item that you’ll want to show off to your friends when they see your library of board games.

If you’re unfamiliar with the popular king-of-the-hill fight from Richard Garfield, you play as monstrous creatures, robots, and aliens—all of whom want to control Tokyo and will attack each other to achieve that goal.

Over successive throws, players roll six dice and decide upon which combination of damage, health, energy, or victory points to keep. Attacking the monster that occupies Tokyo will oust the player from the city and leave you as the reigning King of Tokyo. Supremacy in the city will grant extra victory points, but it will also draw the aggression of the other players.

That struggle for domination is only heightened by the special cards that augment player abilities and monster attacks. The precious energy gained from the dice will make everyone more dangerous.

In order to win the game, you have to accumulate twenty victory points or be the last monster standing.
