Headsets, online gaming and the Xbox all go hand-in-hand. But in truth, I have minimal experience with gaming headsets. Thanks to GameTyrant and the good folks at LucidSound, I've been able to procure an LS10X headset, the second gaming-oriented headset I've been able to personally interact with. Let dig into this bad boy.

Retailing at an MSRP of $59.99 USD, the LS10X headset is a cheaper headset than some of the other gaming headsets on the market. It’s a slightly higher-end model than their LS1X. The purpose of this headset is to provide a dual-microphone headset for your gaming enjoyment and for voice chat. From my own experience, I have never heard anyone say a bad thing about LucidSound's products.

What’s in the box

The LS10X headset comes with the headphones situated in a cardboard tray, the external microphone and instructions. I found the box to be a bit flimsy. The product specs are conveniently printed on the back of the box.

Aesthetics and Build Quality

I own other pairs of headphones and have owned many pairs of headphones in my life. Compared to my Sennheiser headphones that I often use while sound editing, the LS10X has a sturdier build. Compared to my Audio-Technica headphones, Audio-Technica wins this battle of sturdiness. The headphone cup flaps can be swapped out if you don't like the default design. That's a welcome feature to allows for modification as the headphones come in a plain black.

The headphone cups can be rotated inwardly but cannot make a full 360 motion.

The external microphone doesn’t look like it would be able to withstand months or years of punishment like the actual headset might.

Specs and Audio Quality

This pair of cans is designed with the Xbox One and Windows 10 games in mind but it can be used for anything that accepts a 3.5 mm headphone jack. The headphone speakers are 50 mm in length. Both me and my brother found them to be comfortable.

The outer part of the left headphone cup is a dial that can be used tho adjust the audio output volume level. I didn’t find this feature to be particularly useful. I found the default audio output to be a little bit low, but the sound was at least balanced. There were never too much bass or treble or mid-tones.

What It Could Have Done Better

I personally wish the cord for the headphone jack was a little bit longer (it measures in at 1.2 meters), but the length is probably to keep manufacturing costs down and could be part of the reason why it's one of the more affordable headsets on the market. That said, I did like this headset for the most part.
