PlayStation State of Play August 2020 Recap

Earlier today Sony showcased multiple PS4/PS5 titles during their PlayStation State of Play live stream. Although there weren’t many PS5 titles shown (which I found kind of disappointing), we were still given tons of cool looks at upcoming indie games and AAA titles making their way on to both the PS4 and PS5 within the next year.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time

Right out of the gate, Sony opened up their State of Play showcase with Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time. Serving as a direct sequel to Crash Bandicoot: Warped, Crash 4 is the first totally new game in the franchise in over ten years. The game features multiple playable characters, cosmetic skins, the new ‘Inverted Mode’, and much more. Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time releases on October 2nd, 2020. HITMAN III

IO Interactive has revealed that the next chapter in the HITMAN trilogy will feature a VR mode, allowing players to experience the world of assassination through Agent 47’s eyes in January 2021. Check out the official reveal below!

Braid Anniversary Edition

Classic puzzle-adventure title, Braid is getting a facelift in the new Anniversary Edition coming to PS4 sometime in 2021. The remaster features an updated look with a beautiful brush-stroke art style, and reenvisioned areas that feature much more detail than the original title. Check out the announcement trailer below.

The Pathless

The Pathless is a mythical adventure game where players take control of The Hunter and must attempt to lift a curse of darkness off of the vast forest that the game is set in. Accompanied by their eagle sidekick, players will use the fluid movement system to explore the large world and discover unique puzzles for them to solve. The Pathless launches alongside the PS5 this holiday. Check out the gameplay walkthrough below.

Spelunky 2

Arriving on September 15 for PS4 later this year, Spelunky 2 takes players to the moon and introduces a brand new generation of cave explorers. The world of Spelunky 2 is much more dynamic and rich than that of its predecessor. Featuring brand new branching paths, new items, enemies, and much more; Spelunky 2 takes what made the first game so great and expands on those ideas. Check out the official reveal trailer below.

Genshin Impact

Genshin Impact is an upcoming open-world action-adventure game being developed by miHoYo. The game was originally announced in June last year for Windows and iOS, but it was more recently revealed that the title would also be coming to PS4 and Nintendo Switch sometime in 2020. During the State of Play showcase, it was announced that the game would be hitting PS4 this Fall. Check out the official announcement for yourself below.

Aeon Must Die

From Focus Home Interactive and Limestone Games, Aeon Must Die! is a side-scrolling beat ‘em up RPG coming to PS4 in 2021. Check out the official world premiere trailer below.

ANNO: Mutationem

Being developed by Thinking Stars, ANNO: Mutationem is an upcoming action game featuring cyberpunk elements, a dark plot, and a unique mix of pixelated 2D/3D art styles. The game is scheduled for a December 2020 release on PS4. Check out the official announcement trailer below.

Bugsnax

Bugsnax is being developed by the same team that brought you Octodad: Dadliest Catch. The adventure title will have players explore a mysterious island, as they hunt for and trap half-bug half-snack creatures. Revealed earlier this year, Bugsnax is scheduled to release in Q4 of 2020 on PS4, PS5, and Windows PCs. You can get a closer look at the unique gameplay in the trailer below.

Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series

PlayStation players don’t have to wait much longer to play the acclaimed VR title, Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series, on their PSVR systems. During the State of Play live stream, it was revealed that the title will be hitting PlayStation’s own VR headset on August 25, 2020. Check out the official announcement trailer below.

Control Expansion 2: AWE

The critically acclaimed action-adventure title from Remedy Entertainment, Control, is receiving its second story expansion, AWE, later this month. AWE will have players explore a long-abandoned sector of the Berau and confront a creature lurking in the darkness. The expansion will introduce brand new story content, weapons and mods for players to mess around with. Check out the official announcement trailer below.

Auto Chess

Being developed by Drodo Studio, Auto Chess puts a unique spin on the classic board game. The game is scheduled for release on PS4 on October 31, 2020. You can check out the official State of Play trailer below.

The Pedestrian

The Pedestrian is a dynamic side-scrolling puzzle platformer developed Skookum Arts. The game features a beautiful 2.5D art style and challenging puzzles. Although out now on Steam, it was revealed during the State of Play event that the well-received title would be making its way onto PS4 in January 2021. Hood: Outlaws and Legends

Hood: Outlaws and Legends is an upcoming title scheduled to release sometime in 2021 on PS4/PS5, XB1/XSX, and PC. The game has two teams of outlaws compete against each other in order to pull off the perfect heist. Both teams must explore environments being patrolled by hostile guards controlled by an oppressive government in order to find hidden treasures, all while fighting each other. Temtem

Temtem is a creature collecting MMO scheduled to release on PS5 sometime in 2021. Players can explore the online dynamic world as they attempt to capture every Temtem, battle other tamers, and customize their character. Check out the official announcement trailer below.

Godfall

Godfall is a brand new IP being developed by Counterplay Games. The upcoming title has been described as a looter-slasher that features heavy fantasy elements and tons of combat. The game is scheduled to release alongside the PS5 this holiday season. Check out the official gameplay walkthrough below.
