Whenever a game doesn’t require the player to take a linear path and instead allows them to explore the land on their own there is a sense of freedom covered by a hint of feeling lost. This combination is what sparks the adventurer side in players and is usually embellished when given a goal worth achieving. In the case of Project Grove by Antler Studios, this lovely concoction is exactly what we are presented with.
In a world where steam-powered technology has risen to new feats in alchemy, prosperity is hit with misfortune as the Empire is plagued by a disease known as “The Great Rot.” The good news is that the robotics company Potentium proposes that a cure can be found in the magical terrains of Dacrima. You play as the alchemist Eldric who is hired by Potentium in order to find this cure using your wits, skill, and a little robotic companion called L-P1N.
For those interested in Project Grove, I suggest checking out the free demo they have on their Steam page. If you want to support this project to become the best game possible, be sure to check out their Kickstarter which is aimed to help them improve animations, storyline, increase voice acting, and more polishing all around. But before you go anywhere, check out the trailer and see some of the game in action for yourself:
