AlphaDream Files for Bankruptcy

On October 2nd, 2019, Yahoo News Japan reported that Tokyo-based Nintendo affiliate AlphaDream Corporation Ltd, has filed for bankruptcy. The company was $3,700,000 in debt. “Sluggish revenues” and “high development” were cited as reasons for the company’s bankruptcy declaration.

Previously going by the name “AlphaStar”, AlphaDream had staffed former Square Co. Ltd employees and a nearly 20 year relationship with Nintendo. They were best known as the developer for the Mario & Luigi RPG games (a sub-series of the Super Mario franchise) for Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS and Nintendo 3DS, One of their staff members, Chihiro Fujioka previously directed Super Mario RPG.

They also created Tomato Adventure for Game Boy Advance and the Nintendo-licensed Hamtaro games for Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance.
