BLODSTAINED: RITUAL OF THE NIGHT Get An ESRB Rating

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is an eagerly awaited title for many fans of old school Castlevania. After a successful Kickstarter and an 8-bit prequel (which is free until the end of February on Xbox Live), the wait to get the final game has been a long one. But now the wait seems to be drawing to a close as the ESRB has officially given Bloodstained a final age rating of Teen. The content descriptors for the T rating are as follows.

  • Blood

  • Partial Nudity

  • Violence

As with all ESRB ratings a brief overview of why the rating was given has also been provided.

This is an action role-playing game in which players assume the role of Miriam, a cursed orphan who must battle her way through a demon-infested castle. As players traverse side-scrolling environments, they use swords, spears, pistols, and whips to battle fantastical creatures (e.g., harpies; spiked armor; demon-like birds, rodents, dogs) in melee-style combat. In one sequence, players encounter a boss character emerging from a bathtub full of blood; her magic attacks can cause blood to rain down on players and stain the walls and ceilings. Another sequence depicts an impaled copse, with blood flowing heavily into a large fountain. The game also depicts a topless female boss creature (no discernible nipples).

Given the pedigree behind its development and how well Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon turned out it Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night should be a hit for fans! No release date has yet to be revealed but it should only be a matter of time now as ratings are given out closer to the final builds of games typically.
