Character Spotlight: Knuckles the Echidna (Part 2)

Welcome to the second and final part of our series on Knuckles the Echidna! Be sure to click here for Part 1 if you missed it!

In late 2002, Knuckles made his next appearance in Sonic Advance 2 for Game Boy Advance. Unlike Sonic Advance 1, Knuckles had to be unlocked rather than being playable from the get-go. He would continue his Game Boy Advance career with appearances in Sonic Pinball Party, Sonic Battle and Sonic Advance 3.

In 2003, an animated incarnation of Knuckles appeared in the anime series Sonic X. He was just as stubborn as ever.

Knuckles' next major appearance was in Sonic Heroes for the GameCube, PS2 and original Xbox in December 2003/January 2004. Knuckles was the muscle for Team Sonic. His old Chaotix teammates also made a major reappearance after a long hiatus in that game.

In 2005's Shadow the Hedgehog, Knuckles appeared during some stages to act as a Jimminy Cricket of sorts.

After about 8 years of supporting roles and cameos (Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Sonic & All-Stars Racing, Sonic Forces and many others), Knuckles got a drastic makeover for the game (and the supporting animated series) Sonic Boom. Knuckles got his hands on some steroids or something, brother got huge! His personality became stereotyped to be a lot goofier and more lunkheaded in general.

A more conventional version of Knuckles returned in Sonic Mania. He didn't have much to say.

That wraps up our look at Knuckles in video games and other media. In his 25+ year game career, Knuckles has been around the block: he's been an antagonist, a playable character, a trusted friend, a race car driver, and a dudebro. And next year, he's due to join Mario and Sonic at the Tokyo Olympic Games!
