Bandai Namco and FromSoftware have finally unveiled more details for their upcoming title, Elden Ring. Fans have been waiting since 2019’s E3 teaser trailer for more concrete details and game updates. Thankfully, yesterday’s Summer Game Fest brought welcome news!
Elden Ring’s release date has been set for January 21st, 2022. In addition to this important new detail, we’ve also been provided a three-minute gameplay trailer! In the relatively short trailer, we see gorgeously detailed landscapes, hideous monsters, and plenty of fantasy action drama. In essence, this game looks set and ready to deliver the classic FromSoftware game experience we’ve all come to love and long for.
Setting itself apart from their other “Soulsborne” Action RPG games, the developers have teamed up with George R.R. Martin to author the lore, world, and setting of this upcoming title. Those who are unfamiliar with Martin’s name may better recognize him for his best-selling fantasy book series A Song of Ice and Fire, the books behind the mega-hit TV show Game of Thrones. Hidetaka Miyazaki, the writer behind the studio’s popular games, is well known for his uniquely dark and engaging storylines. Adding Martin’s name to the new title is both exciting and intriguing. We can hardly wait to learn more about this game and its storyline!
Elden Ring will launch next year on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam. The game supports the Smart Delivery on Xbox consoles as well as a Free Upgrade to PS5 for players who purchase the PS4 version.
