During the 2019 PDXCon event in Berlin, Cyanide Studio’s Game Director, Patch, took the stage to announce their upcoming game Werewolf: The Apocalypse - Earthblood. Teaming up with Bigben Interactive, they are giving players the chance to become the beast itself. As fans of the original pen-and-paper role-playing from the Classic World of Darkness line, they intend to create a video game that carries over all the main aspects of the pen-and-paper game in an unflinchingly mature universe; especially since this is the first action-RPG game adapted from the eponymous game.
This teaser gives us the first look at our main character Cahal, a werewolf who has been exiled for several years and who has come back to his endangered tribe. His return is due to Endron installing an extraction site and is destroying the forest around a sanctuary. Fighting against this environmental destruction, Cahal can stand against his foes as either a human or a werewolf, given he lets his rage consume him.
Facing the realistic struggles of current topics such as the destruction of nature by man and their machines, this game will be an ode to the old game and a nod to the current day issues wrapped up in one. A major element of the game, in both a unique mechanic and a relatable aspect, is rage as it requires players to learn to control it in order to make the most of it.
I look forward to hearing more about Werewolf: The Apocalypse - Earthblood as it gets closer to launch. Currently, we are looking at a Summer 2020 launch on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
