GameTyrant's Game Of The Year

Happy new year everyone! 2019 is now here and with it an insane number of great games we are all looking forward to like Resident Evil 2, Kingdom Hearts 3 and Ace Combat 7! But 2018 brought out a number of great games of its own, so lets celebrate the top five games of 2018 as voted upon by the GameTyrant writing team!

5. Mega Man 11

Starting off our top 5 list is Mega Man 11! We haven’t seen a new Mega Man game since 2010’s Mega Man 10 and the reception to that game was fairly mixed at the time. In 2015 Capcom did release the Mega Man Legacy Collection 1, which bundled together the first 6 NES games, but fans were left wanting something new. Mega Man 11 released in October to high praise from players and critics alike and signaled a triumphant return for one of gamings older mascots. Solid controls and inventive new gameplay combined with the best Mega Man storyline to date have easily earned Mega Man 11 a spot on our 2018 list!

4. Dragon Ball FighterZ

A Dragon Ball fighting game isn’t anything new to the world of gaming with entries dating back to the NES. Good Dragon Ball Fighting games however are much harder to come by. Dragon Ball FighterZ has solidly landed itself in the great category since its release in January. Combining the signature art style of DBZ Super and mechanics reminiscent of the Marvel Vs. Capcom games lets Dragon Ball FighterZ stand tall with the best fighting games of this generation!

3. Spider-Man

Super Hero games have such a rough history of not being done right throughout gaming history, Superman 64 anyone. But, the last few years have seen the genre finally getting the justice it deserves with first the Batman Arkham games and now with Insomniacs take on Spider-Man! Spider-Man takes all of the best aspects of being the web slinger and transitions them to game form perfectly resulting in one of the best Super Hero games we have ever seen. The free roam city and storyline present in the game have also been extremely fun to experience so don’t miss out!

2. Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a technical masterpiece in every regard. An insanely detailed open world, gorgeous visuals, millions of things to do and an engaging story that keeps you playing are just a few of my noteworthy takes. Rockstar has once again shown the gaming world once again why they are the kings of the open world games and the reception of Red Dead Redemption 2 more than backs them up. If you have yet to try out this amazing game make sure to bump it up a couple of slots in your next game to play list!

1. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Here it is the moment you have all been waiting for, the GameTyrant game of the year award goes to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate! The latest entry of the Super Smash Bros. franchise is every long time fans dream, every character, stage and theme to date have returned for all out mayhem! Combine this with the new World of Light story mode, which has been a blast, and some long time requested characters finally joining the fight, hello Ridley, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is just that the ultimate Smash game!
