One of the hardest things for developers to do is pull off a proper cooperative horror game. Sure, there are plenty of good ones where two or more players can work together in a game set up to be a horror game, but fact is that most of the time they don’t give the sensation that a true horror game gives. This has slowly been changing with games like Dead by Daylight and The Hunt: Showdown starting to show how to make a multiplayer horror game that doesn’t sacrifice the actual horror aspect.
Stepping up to the plate to give the co-op horror genre a try is Question, yes that is the development team name, with their game The Blackout Club. Currently available on Steam in Early Access, this game will have players looking for evidence on a monstrous secret beneath the skin of a small town. Check out the trailer for this first person co-op experience:
I love the fact that you have a task that seems almost mundane, but you will have to look out for the enemy at the same time. Obviously, sticking together is a must since there is a way to help save your friends when they are getting grabbed. The trailer alone seems to show quite a bit of horror elements remaining, despite the fact that you will be able to play with friends. The craziest aspect mentioned is hinted in the trailer, but stated on the Steam page, and that’s the fact that you can ONLY see the enemy with your eyes closed! With sight being one of the biggest factors of a horror game, this is about to get interesting.
What do you think about this new co-op horror title? Does The Blackout Club seem like the type of cooperative game you want to play?
