With the Gaming Avalanche of 2023 in full force, we and many of you are bombarded with the amazing choice of so many titles to play on various platforms. While this inundation has been occurring, a title named THE LAST FAITH caught my eye and I’ve been playing it hardcore ever since. While Starfield collects virtual dust, while Spider-Man 2, and many other huge titles this season are stellar, The Last Faith is what has been on my rotation on PC and Steam Deck OLED alike. The Steam Deck OLED’s amazing screen is perfect for the incredible art style present in The Last Faith.
While I generally dislike naming genres mashups like metroidvania, The Last Faith is definitely more “vania” than “metroid”. Either way, this game is one of the best if not the most polished Castlevania type game out there. The pixel graphics are top-notch, the animations are gorgeous, and the sounds and voice acting are stellar in general. There is a heavy dose of Bloodborne influence present in the game and I couldn’t pay a higher compliment to the devs to paying homage without copycatting like so many other soulslike games these days. This game is tough but it’s fair and I’d happy recommend it to any fans of the genre, dripping with a dark and gothic atmosphere with a ton of passion poured into it.
