PlayStation Studios, Kojima Productions, and Filmworks are bringing us a documentary film about one of the greatest minds in video game history. Hideo Kojima has been an innovator in the gaming world for over 30 years. He has worked alongside Konami to bring us the innovative stealth gameplay of Metal Gear and created the genre that is implemented in almost every AAA title to date. He also shaped the way we play and perceive games as a medium with the introduction of Metal Gear Solid for the original PlayStation. This pushed the video game medium forward in a new cinematic story-telling directive. He changed the gaming industry and his impact is still very prevalent in todays latest titles.
Hideo Kojima is a well-respected visionary but not all of his time in the gaming industry has been light-hearted. He did have a very ugly fallout with Konami leading up to his separation from the giant and forming his own independent studio. Although this was scary to hear at the time, it ended up being the exact thing that Kojima wanted. The complete freedom to express his art in any way he wishes. This is the essence of the documentary.
“Widely regarded as the first auteur of video games, this visually captivating documentary gives a rare insight into Hideo Kojima's creative process as he launches his own independent studio. Featuring contributions from visionary artists such as Guillermo del Toro, Nicholas Winding Refn, Grimes, George Miller, Norman Reedus, Woodkid, Chvrches and many others, this thoughtful film explores the power and potential of video games as an art form through the work of an influential talent revered by millions worldwide.”
Currently, the documentary is in post-production and will reveal its release at a later date. Stay tuned for more up-to-date coverage of Hideo Kojima: Connecting Worlds.
