Last month was a big moment for the Tomb Raider franchise with the release of the movie starring Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft, and the announcement of a new game called Shadow of the Tomb Raider by Square Enix. Now, a recent release of an official artwork hinted at the game’s setting where Lara’s latest adventure will take place.

Looking at the artwork, it seems like the setting for the latest game will be somewhere in South or Central America. The most prominent hint are the pyramids in the background that strongly resembles the Mayan Pyramids, located in Mexico. Lara can be seen striking a pose on top of a tree with the pyramids seen behind her.

Another interesting takeaway from this artwork is the significance of the eclipse behind Lara Croft. We all know that the series tends to introduce paranormal elements in the game. So, will the eclipse serve as a trigger of some sort? Will it awaken an ancient creature lurking inside the pyramids? Only time will tell.

Besides the announcement of the release date, which will be on September 14, Square Enix has a few events in store for fans before the release of the game. On April 27, Shadow of the Tomb Raider will hold a proper reveal event, where players can expect more details on Lara’s latest conquest.
